Dirt and Dust? The face of Political Islam.

It's a little too soon to rip off the bandaid. The wound has closed and a scab has formed but if you tear it off now the injury will be just as fresh as the day it happened. It take longer than thirty years to forget a revolution. Surely Mahmoud Ahmadinejad knows this. The events of the past week and actions of the so-call Revolutionary Guard in response to the uprisings in Tehran suggest otherwise.

I'm no expert on Shari'a law, however I do somehow believe that the people of the Islamic Republic invisioned a different society when they adopted Islamism for the national ideology.

With the title of 'Supreme Leader of Iran' we are lead to believe that the Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is calling the shots. In theory he has no loyalty or obligation of uphold the authority of Ahmadinejad, he is only committed to upholding the Islamic system. His role in the revolution, his relationship with Ayatollah Khomeini and his service as President would suggest that he is up to that task.

Unfortunately I see only two possible outcomes of the situation. Ahmadinejad succeeds in oppressing both the protests and his opposition OR the revolutionary fervor will neccessitate intervention by Mr Ali Khamenei, whose authority should not be underestimated, to restore order in the Islamic State.
